A delegation from Zhejiang University School of Medicine visited the American Wellness Center (AWC) in Dubai Healthcare City as part of their overseas social practice program, marking a significant milestone in international academic collaboration. Under the guidance of Professor Dr. Muhammad S. Tahir, the students explored AWC’s multidisciplinary departments and learned about its integrative healthcare model combining psychiatry, psychology, rehabilitation, and holistic wellness. The visit included demonstrations of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic systems such as dynamic gait analysis and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), providing valuable insights into the intersection of technology, clinical care, and patient-centered practice.
Dr. Tahir—an American Board-Certified Consultant Psychiatrist and Neurologist, trained at Columbia University and Weill Cornell University Hospital in New York—welcomed the students and shared his perspectives on modern psychiatry, AI in healthcare, and the importance of emotional connection in treatment. Drawing from over 25 years of international clinical experience, he emphasized that while artificial intelligence can assist in diagnostics, it cannot replace the trust and empathy central to psychotherapy. Following their visit, the Zhejiang University team’s project report received the First Prize among 25 competing medical school teams, recognizing the academic and cultural impact of their AWC exchange.
