Occupation Therapy

Occupational therapy helps to develop the necessary abilities to accomplish a person’s activities of daily living and/or to find ways to compensate for physical, cognitive, and/or affective limitations to ensure optimal participation in these activities.

An occupational therapist can help develop the fundamental abilities in self-care activities (dressing, eating, grooming), in household or work activities (ex. writing, computer use, meal preparation and planning, home and life organization), and in leisure activities (hobbies, recreational activities, social outings). An occupational therapist will also help modify the environment or the activities so that the person can accomplish them. American Wellness Center in Dubai Healthcare City has the best Occupational Therapists and will provide you with all the breakthroughs you are looking for.

Who needs Adult Occupational Therapy?

Adults with developmental disabilities require occupational therapies. Such treatments offer both cognitive and physical therapy to help adults cope with their everyday life tasks.

There are dozens of ways adults with anxiety and depression seek help. They see psychiatrists for medication and occupational therapists to learn coping skills. An occupational therapist works in collaboration with the doctor to understand what treatment an adult needs to achieve the life they want to live.

Other than that, older adults having physical weakness and chronic pain can also seek occupational therapies. An OT practitioner knows how an adult can improve his/her physical activities.

American Wellness Center based in Dubai Healthcare City is the perfect place to get Occupational Therapy in Dubai.

What to Expect

Step 1

The occupational therapist will meet with the person (and a family member/caregiver if desired) to discuss their concerns and identify challenges and activities they are having difficulty completing in order to establish treatment goals. A medical referral is not necessary to receive occupational therapy services.

Step 2

The occupational therapist will evaluate the identified challenging activities and establish a treatment plan. Evaluation may consist of standardized assessments or dynamic  analysis of the activities.

Step 3

The treatment plan will include direct one-on-one intervention sessions for a block of sessions. Intervention sessions can vary greatly depending on issues identified and may include:

  • Activity task practice
  • Activities to stimulate fine and gross motor control
  • Activities to stimulatee cognition/perceptual abilities
  • Self-regulation and introduction
  • Training with strategies or devices to facilitate activity completion

Sessions are usually held at clinical setting and our highly qualified Occupational Therapists usually work in collaboration with other professionals involved with the client, as well as the clinic’s interprofessional team (physiotherapy, audiology, and speech-language pathology) to offer the most well-rounded service to our clients.

Step 4

A detailed re-evaluation of progress on recovery. As patients continue to live independently, the therapist then breaks down activities into key areas and provides interventions and exercises to help them reach goals.

There are eight categories into which the therapists break down these daily activities. The key areas are as follows:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)
  • Rest and Sleep
  • Education
  • Work
  • Leisure
  • Play
  • Social Participation

The therapist will recommend ongoing occupational therapy to assess the patient progress as well as implement treatment planning and development with activity programs based on each patient’s individual needs and abilities.

We encourage patients to continue the treatment as per the therapist plan to complete the treatment course to have the best outcome.
