Dr. Fareez Rana

Consultant Psychiatrist

I believe that there is no health without mental health

Having lived in five different countries, I am aware of and respect the different beliefs and values of people from a variety of backgrounds. I use evidence-based medicine to provide the best possible care to my patients. As no treatment in psychiatry is ‘one size fits all’, I believe in working collaboratively and compassionately with patients and their carers to find the most appropriate treatment for each individual patient.

Background and Experience:

I worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Oxford, UK, for seven years before relocating to UAE. Prior to that, I completed higher specialist training in psychiatry in Oxford Deanery, UK. I am experienced in managing mental health problems of all levels of severity and complexity in adolescents, adults and older people using a variety of approaches including pharmacological and psychological interventions. I have experience in treating mental health conditions in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

I have a special interest and experience in assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (including the use of assessment tools ADOS and ADI-R) and mental health problems in those with Intellectual Disability. I also have experience of managing neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety and psychosis associated with epilepsy, dementia and sleep disorders.

I have provided teaching and training to psychiatry trainees. I have taken part in research studies and published papers.
